Summary of the regatta in 2016

Ainslie defended his title.
THE organised the regatta for the Finn masters sailors for the 6th time in 2016, where a south-african could cheer on the top of the podium. As usual, the regatta was held between 7-11 September in nice light easterly breeze. Altough the forcast was not so promising, 8 races could be completed out of the 10 scheduled ones in 4 days with sunny weather in winds around 6-10 knots. Usually these easterly winds disappear in the late morning hours, but due to the narrow Tihany strait, these winds could remain there for longer times, which helps organising racing. This time the courses were set on the western side of the peninsula, so it was an excellent opportunity to practice on the venue of the Gold Cup in 2017.

On the first day 3, on the second 2 and on the third 3 races could be completed while ont he fourth day of the regatta the wind disappeared after the start and the race was abandoned. It was a pretty high scoring regatta for some as the wind was sometimes pretty hard to read. After these races there were plenty to talk about in the marina, where free beer and wine was offered.

Foreign competitors were the rulers in the top of the final results as they won all the categories. In the overall and GM categories Ainslie was the first, Rymonis second just like last year and Jiri Outrata third being the first in the 60+ category. The first in the legend category was Friedrich Muller from Germany placed 23rd of the 46 boat strong fleet.

In 2017 the Finn Masters Euro Cup will be organised again in Tihany, but earlier than usual. Since the Masters Worlds will be in Barbados, we would like to offer an opportunity for those who don’t have the budget or the time or mood to get there, so at 5-9 June we will organise the Masters Euro Cup with the same hospitality as some of you have already experienced. This will be also a great opportunity to get acquainted with the venue of the Gold Cup, which will be held in early September. Hope to see you there!
